Enhancing Connectivity and Productivity with the Paylocity Mobile App

The Paylocity Mobile app was developed to provide users with convenient self-service access to their Payroll and Human Resource information, available 24/7. The app allows users to view and email paycheck information, manage time-off requests, search the company directory, view company news, and more from a single, easy-to-use application.

My Role
As a User Experience Developer & Designer, I worked closely with designers and developers to create the mobile application's code, ensuring that it visually aligned with the expectations and quality desired in the first deployment of the app.
The Problem
The goal was to create a mobile application that offered employees easy and secure access to their payroll and HR information, thus enhancing connectivity and productivity for over 10,000 nationwide clients.
Research
Extensive research was conducted to understand the needs of employees and HR departments. This involved gathering feedback from existing users and analyzing competitor mobile applications.
Research Goals:
- Identify the most commonly used features in payroll and HR mobile applications.
- Understand the security requirements for accessing sensitive payroll and HR data.
- Determine the user interface preferences of the target audience.
Research Findings:
- Employees valued quick access to paycheck information and time-off balances.
- Security and ease of use were top priorities for users.
- A significant demand existed for mobile solutions that integrated various HR functions into one app.

Define
From the research findings, the following were defined as necessary features:
- Secure 24/7 access to payroll and HR information.
- Ability to view and manage paycheck information and time-off requests.
- Integration of company directories and news.
Wireframes
Wireframes were created to prototype and refine the app's user interface. These wireframes focused on ensuring an intuitive and seamless user experience.

Design
High-fidelity designs were developed, incorporating feedback from wireframe testing. The design phase included creating color mockups, iconography, and marketing media to ensure a cohesive and visually appealing user interface.
Development
The iOS version was delivered first in 8 months, followed by the Android version 4 months later. Development focused on creating a secure solution that was both robust and user-friendly.

Findings & Conclusion
Upon launching the app, it was found that users appreciated the convenience and security provided by mobile access to payroll and HR information. The app received positive feedback for its intuitive design and comprehensive features.
